KJV NO VERSES
A FEW CHANGES I MADE TO THE KJV
to line up with Strong’s Concordance and Young’s Literal Translation.
This not meant to be a complete updating; just a partial for now. I'm working on another updating which will replace obsolete words in the KJV.
No verse numbers in this updated KJV because I want people to read all of the Bible instead of just their "success verses." Lots of people seem to treat the Bible like a dictionary, or a bunch of "fortune cookie fortunes" hidden in between some stories.
I'll be listing the "changes" with the old word first and then the new word or phrase: (Such as: OldPhrase / NewPhrase.) "YLT" will be referring to Young's Literal Translation. "Strong's" will refer to Strong's Concordance with the reference number following.
I never did like the way the KJV uses the word "ghost."
• Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit (YLT)
The Holy Spirit is alive and a person.
• The Spirit itself / The Spirit Himself (YLT "The Spirit himself.")
Romans 8:16 (also in v. 26)
The Holy Spirit is not an "it."
• when it testified beforehand (referring to the Holy Spirit) / when He testified beforehand (YLT)
1 Peter 1:11
• It is a spirit / It is a ghost (YLT "apparition.") Notice the word “it.”
Matthew 14;
walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit /
walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a ghost (YLT "apparition.")
Mark 6:49
• gave up the ghost / expired (YLT)
Are they "giving up the ghost"- as if they had a "ghost" while they were alive?
If “ghost” is referring to “spirit,” it suggests that spirit and soul are being separated here.
Either way: “gave up the ghost” sounds like an awkward phrase. Too much like Halloween.
• yielded up the ghost (referring to Jesus) / yielded the spirit (YLT)
Matthew 27:50 and other places
• For if Jesus / For if Joshua (YLT)
Hebrews 4
Joshua brought the sabbath keepers into the promised land. Jesus is the one who brings us the true sabbath rest. The true sabbath rest is referring to "resting" in what Jesus has done and not trusting in our "works." A "rest" and not a "day."
• turtles / turtledoves (YLT)
Numbers 6:10 (See also Leviticus 12:8 and Leviticus 15:29)
“And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation” /
“And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation”
Turtles are unclean meat and therefore would not be used for animal sacrifices.
• intending after Easter / intending after Passover
Acts 12

Two separate days here: one refers to sacrifice and the other refers to resurrection.

Hebrews 10

• Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness /
Who hath delivered us from the authority of darkness
Colossians 1:13
(Strong's 1849 - exousia) (YLT)
The word for “power” is “dunamis.” (Strong's 1411 - dunamis: power)
Not the same thing as “authority” as we read in Luke 9:1:
(Luke 9:1 (KJV) - “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power (Strong's 1411) and authority (Strong's 1849) over all devils, and to cure diseases.”)
I’m only showing 2 examples here of power and authority (above and below), but will change all instances of “power” and “powers” where it should be “authority” according to Strong’s Concordance.
• Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, /
Behold, I give unto you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, Luke 10

To “tread on” means under our feet.
• robbers of churches / robbers of temples

The word for “church” is “ekklesia.” (Strong’s 1577)

Psalms 8:5 (Strong's 0430 - elohiym) (YLT “causest him to lack a little of Godhead”)
• Study to shew thyself approved /

Two things to present ourselves as approved: a workman that needs not to be ashamed, and rightly dividing the word of truth; and do it diligently.
• the firstborn of every creature / first-born of all creation (YLT)
Colossians 1:15
Other instances of "creature" were changed to "creation" or "created thing," etc. like it is in YLT.
Mark 16:15, Romans 8:19, 20, 21 and 39; Galatians 6:15, Colossians 1:15, Colossians 1:23, Hebrews 4:13

James 1:12

It's not a matter of just being tried; but to "pass the test" also. We have to endure.

Hebrews 11
(Strong's 5287 - hupostasis: a setting under (support) or abstractly: assurance)
(YLT "And faith is of things hoped for a confidence, of matters not seen a conviction,")
No mention of "substance." WF teachers would prefer the word "substance."
• end of the world / end of the age (YLT)
Matthew 13:39 and 49, Matthew 24:3, Matthew 28:20, Hebrews 9:26
• but now once in the end of the world / but now once at the consummation of the ages (Hebrews 9:26)
• Be careful for nothing / Be anxious for nothing

Thus removing the possible "tribute to Shakespeare."

Even though we want to reverence and use the proper name of God, nobody seems to know how to pronounce "the name" or spell it. Some don't want to pronounce "the name" at all.

Matthew 26:28 and other places where “testament” should be “covenant.”
(Strong’s 1242 - diatheke) (YLT)
Not just a “testament” that is being reported, but rather a “covenant” - sealed with blood.
This goes along with Exodus 24 involving the old covenant:
(Exodus 24:8 (KJV) -“And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.”)

Matthew 3:3 and various other places have “Esaias” also.

Acts 28:15 Capitalizing “The” without anything else that “The” is referring to is like writing: “The white house.”

The men were not “wounded,” but would enjoy wounding others. The British have a certain use for the word “bloody.”

The city was not drenched with blood, but the people of that city enjoyed wounding others.

“God save the king” seems more like a popular British phrase.

He made a wooden idol; he wasn’t planting something. Also other times for “grove,” I inserted the
word: “asherah,” except for the example below.

A different word for “grove” here.

The word “if” was added.

“any man” is actually the “just” who “shall live by faith.”
• Thou shalt not kill. / Thou shalt not murder. (YLT - Thou dost not murder) (Strong’s 7523)
• and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. / and there shall become one flock, and one shepherd.
“there shall become” (Strong’s 1096) “one flock” (Strong’s 4167) John 10:16 There are two “folds”
instead of one (Jews and Gentiles) that shall become one “flock.”
• for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. / for God giveth the Spirit without measure.
John 3:34 “unto him” was added. Just an awkward way of saying that God gives the Spirit without measure. If God does NOT give the Spirit WITH measure: it is better said that God DOES give the Spirit WITHOUT measure.
